The two men who were previously "people of interest" in the homophobic and racial attack against the actor of the Empire Jussie Smollett have now been arrested.
Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the two Nigerian brothers had been treated as potential suspects because the Chicago detectives had "a probable cause of their involvement in an alleged crime."
The two men were not charged and the police did not specify what the brothers were accused of or what the alleged crime could have been.
On January 29, Smollett reported to the Chicago police that he was physically badaulted by two men who had chanted racial and homophobic slurs against the 36-year-old actor. He also said the suspected suspects were wearing a Make America Great Again (MAGA) baseball cap.
"The interrogations will resume today with both people and their lawyer," Guglielmi said in his press release.
"Although we have not found any video documenting the alleged attack, there is nothing to indicate that it is a hoax."
"The alleged victim cooperates at the moment and continues to be treated as a victim and not as a suspect", he added.
