Lawyer Sam Okudzeto
Sam Okudzeto, a private lawyer, criticized former President John Mahama in the aftermath of the violence that occurred during the partial election of Ayawaso West Wuogon.
Speaking at Joy FM's Super Morning Show show, the State Council member described Mahama's remarks as "irresponsible".
According to him, for someone who has already been president, Mahama's statements should have been more decorative.
"Unfortunately, that too is irresponsible … what he says is an encouragement for other members of the NDC to say that they can also behave the same way … but two wrongs do not the good, "Okudzeto said.
He suggested that if Mahama had concerns about the by-election, he should have personally addressed President Akufo-Addo. Critics of the former statesman are linked to Mahama's warning the NPP that the NDC would offer them equal opportunities two weeks earlier.
Speaking in front of supporters of the Volta region, the former president criticized the government for its handling of violence during the West Wuogon Ayawaso's by-election.
He said that they would react equally if the government continued to intimidate the NDC supporters as it did in the byelection.
"We respect the constitution of this country and the NDC is a democratic party, which is why we respect the rules of the constitution. But the same constitution says that Ghanaians must resist anyone who tries to subvert the constitution. When you unleash the forces and intimidate people when they should vote, you overthrow the constitution. And we have the right to resist you. "
"I want to remind you that NDC has a revolutionary root and that when it comes to unleashing violence, no one can beat us. It is just that we have given birth to democracy in this country and that is why we must be the first to respect it. That's why we act as a docile party that respects the rule of law. But if we believe that the government can not protect our people and use its vigilante groups and illegal forces to intimidate, harbad and hurt our people, we may have to advise ourselves, "Mahama warned.
Last Thursday, January 31, 2019, the partial election in Ayawaso West Wuogon was tainted by a shootout that injured some people.
It was after that macho men wearing NSC branded t-shirts allegedly attacked voters at the Bawaleshie Presby School polling station.
