Tyson expands recall of chicken thongs over possible metal contamination

(Reuters) – US meat processor Tyson Foods Inc. announced Saturday it has extended the recall of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken strips after more consumers found metal fragments in some products.

In March, the company recalled about 69,000 pounds (31,000 kg) of the same product after the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety Inspectors received two complaints about foreign materials found by consumers.

The recalled products, manufactured in the same location as the previously recalled lot, have prior dates of use between October 1, 2019 and March 7, 2020, the company said in a statement.

A majority of these products have already been consumed without any incident being reported, Tyson said.

He stated that he was expanding the recall in the interest of public health, but gave no further details regarding the latest contamination.

In January, Tyson recalled a batch of chicken nuggets due to possible rubber contamination.
