The secretary of the University of Ghana section of the Association of University Teachers of Ghana (UTAG), Professor Ransford Gyampo, has warned that his section will strike on its own if it is not satisfied with the dealer’s agreement. government with association.
“We don’t mind going on strike alone if what they are going to sign is against our interests. The constitution mandates us or gives us the right to reject, ”Professor Gyampo told Citi News.
He said any possible strike would come early in the next semester.
“If they don’t agree on what we are looking for, then we will quit and not resume.”
Professor Gyampo also expressed doubts about the capabilities of the UTAG negotiating team.
“We made recommendations for the bargaining team itself to be overhauled. People feel that holding positions in UTAG simply makes them automatic members of bargaining teams.
“The negotiating team should be made up of labor experts, economists, financiers; people who understand the game, ”said Professor Gyampo.
UTAG planned to resume a strike to protest its terms of service last week on Friday.
Its members had been on strike in August 2021 because it wanted the government to restore the terms of service agreed in 2012.
This was after a period of a month for the resumption of negotiations which yielded no results, according to the teachers’ union.
But he backed down after reaching an agreement with the government a day before the ultimatum expired.
The strike threatened the conduct of examinations in schools and risked further altering the school calendar following disruptions from the coronavirus pandemic.
The 2012 terms of service set a speaker base plus market premium at $ 2,084.42, but the base speaker premium is $ 997.84.
