Ugandan academic and political activist Dr Stella Nyanzi fled to Nairobi, Kenya.
This was confirmed by his lawyer, Professor George Luchiri Wajackoyah, who cited the political persecution of President Yoweri Museveni’s government for this decision.
Nyanzi is a fierce critic of Museveni and his government. She unsuccessfully ran for parliament in the elections which have just ended. She contested for the woman Member of Parliament from Kampala.
She recently told local news outlet New Vision that her family was on the road to recovery from the loss.
“No one is teaching anyone how to recover from an election defeat. And because I got into the election campaign with my kids, I needed to find strategies to help them cope with the loss of the election. My loss was also their loss, ”she noted.
“We did our SWOT analysis. We have restructured the strategy. A family that plans together stays together … After some serious soul-searching and open discussion, we are in a much better place. We are truly on the road to recovery.
“It may take us a while, but we are definitely stronger together. The loss of the election has brought me closer to the strengths of my children,” she added.
