Curved women have now been added to a list of tourist attractions ranging from spectacular wildlife to national parks.
At the launch of the beauty contest, women were posing by the pool with the Minister of Tourism of the capital, Kampala.
"We naturally have beautiful women who are amazing to watch. Why do not we use these people as a strategy to promote our tourism industry? ", Said Kiwanda in East Africa newspaper. He added that the Miss Curvy beauty pageant offered a different perspective than smaller competitors.
Miss Curvy Uganda is open to people aged 18 to 35, the organizers said.
According to local media reports, Ann Mungoma, organizer of Miss Curvy Uganda, said the show would increase the visibility and appreciation of the Ugandan people.
"Miss Curvy is an event that will highlight the endowment of the real African woman.
"This is an exceptional event that will see young women show their beautiful curves and their spirit," she said.
A mission statement on the website says: "Uganda is nicknamed a gift of nature. This is not only manifested by the abundance of natural resources, but also extends to the Ugandan population.
"For the first time in Uganda, women who are proud of their appearance have a reason to smile, while a new beauty contest celebrating true African beauty is born. Nicknamed "Miss Curvy Uganda", this event aims to recognize and recognize the big, big and daring Ugandan women. "
The show has been widely criticized. Ugandan activist Primrose Nyonyozi Murungi called on the government to cancel the contest.
In an article on Facebook, she writes: "It's 2019 ladies and gentlemen. And a whole committee of tourism sat down, discussed and decided to spend something like this. These were men and women with girls at home.
We do not know when the show will take place.
