Uganda's ruling party has chosen 74-year-old President Yoweri Museveni as a candidate in the 2021 election, which could see him re-elected for a sixth term, the party's resolution said on Wednesday.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) called on Museveni to "continue to lead the movement and the state in 2021 and beyond to remove obstacles to transformation."
The resolution was pbaded at a retreat for senior party officials chaired by Museveni.
This decision comes after the signing of a bill in December 2017 removing a presidential age limit of 75 years, which would have prevented Museveni from standing up, provoking protests and a public outcry. opposition accusing the president of wanting to rule for life.

The Constitutional Court, last July, ruled in favor of removing the limit. Last month, the Supreme Court of Uganda began hearing a petition to challenge this decision.
Museveni, who took power at the head of a rebel army in 1986, once said that leaders who remained "too long" were at the root of Africa's problems. .
However, while he was running for a fifth term in 2016, he said it was not the right time to leave, he still had work to do.
