This month, UK-based Calligo announced that it has acquired Decisive Data, a US-based service provider around data analytics and data science, with the goal of expanding its skills in data visualization and its North American market.
The acquisition is the first in the United States for Calligo, although the company has acquired three Canadian MSPs in recent years, said Julian Box, founder and CEO of Calligo.
Calligo, who made the Elite 150 of the CRN 2021 Managed Service Provider 500, was founded about 10 years ago with the goal of helping customers control who had access to data and where that data was, and eventually evolved into the cloud. solution provider, then managed service provider, concerns about data privacy have increased with the passage of European GDPR regulations, Box told CRN.

Decisive Data, based in Redmond, Washington, has a strong focus on data analytics, including business intelligence, machine learning, data integration and in particular data visualization, Box said. It was this powerful element of data visualization that made Decisive Data particularly appealing to Calligo, he said.
“We didn’t have data visualization skills,” he says. “But it’s important for our customers. We are also getting a new scale of our skills with Decisive Data. It is very important for our strategy. And we gain experience in the medical field and in other sectors in which we were not previously. It really gives us the ability to accelerate growth across all of our sites. “
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, acquisition was done primarily online through DocuSign and other digital forms, with four “wet” signatures required for documents that needed to be notarized, Box said.
The integration of the Decisive Data team into Calligo’s insight business should go smoothly in large part because Decisive Data has been very open with its staff about the acquisition, he said.
“We met the people from Decisive Data very early on,” he said. “Usually in an acquisition it’s ‘Congratulations, you are now part of Calligo’, and the employees look at the lighthouses coming in. When we closed the acquisition, employees knew where they fit. There is a risk in making an acquisition so openly, but for us, we are operational from day one. “
Calligo provides customers with data privacy, data information, and hosted and managed services, Box said.
“We generally believe that businesses need partners who understand what they can and cannot do with data,” he said. “Whether it’s hosted in Microsoft Azure or in our own public cloud CloudCore, it doesn’t matter. And we have some customers with data on site, especially at the mid-level. “
Box said that for Calligo having its own public cloud CloudCore is an important part of its business.
“There are three areas where our own cloud excels,” he said. “We have quite a few clients who want local jurisdiction. We also have mid-term clients who want SLAs for performance or who have to meet specific KPIs. And for our business intelligence, we’re working closely with Intel and Mind Foundry to optimize our platform to be as efficient as it can be with machine learning algorithms. “
Calligo also works with Microsoft Azure for customers requiring scalability or to perform test and development or for businesses that are constantly growing and contracting, Box said.
“So we have a multi-cloud offering,” he says. “And we see this as the future.”
