UltraViolet digital locker closes Wednesday

UltraViolet was launched for the first time in 2011, at a time when many customers were still committed to owning digital content, but wanted flexibility in viewing across different platforms. You can watch a movie you bought on Vudu, for example on FandangoNOW. Customers can even convert their DVD purchases to digital titles for a fee. The company's demise is probably due to Disney's creation of its own digital rights registry in 2017, Movies Anywhere. Major Hollywood studios such as 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate and Universal Pictures, as well as digital stores like iTunes, Amazon and Google Play, have all signed a deal with Disney.

Customers will no longer be able to access their UltraViolet libraries after July 31st. To avoid permanently losing movies or TV shows, make sure your UltraViolet library is linked to an existing reseller (such as the aforementioned FandangoNOW or Vudu).
