UMG Pre-Grammy Showcase Presents Post Malone, BLACKPINK, YG
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Post Malone, nominated for the Grammys album and record of the year, has closed the annual pre-Grammy presentation of the Universal Music Group, also highlighted by Donald Trump, president of YG dissing makes his debut in the United States.
Malone, who is nominated for four Grammy Awards, talked about hurting her finger before singing while playing guitar at the two-o'clock party on Saturday. The showcase also featured trailers for upcoming documentaries, including one on the Bee Gees and the history of the mixtapes.
The event, by invitation only, showcased the established talent and new talents of the label in a room gathering more than 300 participants including actors from the music industry, the press and artists.
BLACKPINK was in great demand by social media who wanted to see the group of girls perform. The South Korean group, consisting of Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé, did not disappoint, as many in the room gave them a standing ovation after their set.
YG is asked if he should perform "FDT", which explicitly criticizes Trump. But the Los Angeles-based rapper said he felt he needed to interpret the controversial song to "make a statement."
Subsequently, YG performs the radio hit "Big Bank" with 2Chainz, who then goes solo for his song "Different".
Oscar-nominated director Frank Marshall announced the "Bee Gees" trailer. The other trailers presented are "From Scratch", "The Go-Go's" and "Ice Cold", which plunges into the history of hip-hop jewelry.
Ella Mai opened the showcase with a few songs including "Shot Clock" and "Boo 'd Up", nominated for the song of the year and the best R & B song. The song reached the top spot of the Billboard R & B charts and peaked at five in Hot 100.
Rapper Lil Baby made a brief appearance performing "Yes Indeed" and "Drip Too Hard". Before filming, some wondered if the rapper would attend the presentation after his recent arrest in Atlanta for reckless driving in a Corvette.
Lil Baby faces charges of non-signaling when changing lanes, careless driving and attempting to abscond or evading the police. He was released on bail in time for his performance.
Other performers include Grammy nominees Midland, J Balvin and Greta Van Fleet, who have won three awards, including Best New Artist. Balvin 's "I Like It" song featuring Cardi B was hailed as the year' s record by Sunday 's Grammys.
