UN condemns the killing of five children during a protest in Sudan

The UN agency for children has denounced the killing of five children in the town of Al-Obied, North Kordofan, claiming that it was children aged 15 to 17 years old.

In a statement, the UNICEF Sudan office also called for prosecuting the perpetrators of the attack in court.

Demonstrations erupted in Khartoum and angry protesters closed the main roads connecting the Sudanese capital to other cities.

Eyewitnesses told Anadolu that thousands of people were walking down the streets of Siteen Street and the surrounding residential areas of Khartoum carrying banners calling for bringing to justice those who had killed the children.

Earlier in the day, authorities in the state of North Kordofan announced a curfew in the city from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am.

The Sudanese opposition alliance of the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) denounced the killing of children and held the Transitional Military Council (TMC), which includes the army and forces rapid support (RSF) responsible for the mbadacre.
