(MENAFN) UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric has expressed concern over a possible cholera outbreak in Yemen, with around 223,000 cases suspected since the beginning of the year.
According to the United Nations spokesperson, this is triple the number of cases submitted in early 2018, and almost a quarter of cases involve children under five.
Dujarric is worried about a possible "spiral epidemic with mbadive morbidity and mortality if current trends are not quickly under control".
He added that "the agencies are particularly worried because this increase took place months before the usual peak of the rainy season in August in Yemen".
