President Akufo-Addo reiterated his government's commitment to creating a business-friendly environment
The transnational consumer goods company, Unilever Ghana, officially inaugurated three new factories at its Tema site, as part of its commitment to a sustainable socio-economic contribution to Ghana's economy.
The company commissioned the Personal Care Dryer plant, the biombad boiler and Orals and also upgraded several factories in the plant.
According to the firm, it is a giant step in the production of one of its brands, "Pepsodent", which creates job creation opportunities for its local suppliers.
He added that the initiative would greatly help to reduce its dependence on imports from other countries.
Gladys Amoah, general manager of Unilever Ghana, told JoyBusiness on the sidelines of the commissioning: "It's not just about direct employment, but also about indirect jobs, in particular, because in our way of working we look at the full impact of the supply chain. we are building our new oral care facility, what we know is that we need to source raw materials and packaging in Ghana. "
Amoah said the investment reflected Unilever's goals of a highly respected Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP) to improve people's health and hygiene needs; reduce the impact of its activities on the environment and improve the livelihoods of people around the world.
About the plant
According to the firm, the biombad boiler was installed in order to generate a cheaper, cleaner and more reliable source of energy for plant operations. It estimates that this will significantly reduce the plant's reliance on residual fuel oil and save about 21% of the cost of energy.
With regard to the Personal Care Dryer, the new facility uses modern technology to dry soaps made in the range of personal care products.
The dryer, he says, has the capacity to supply soap noodles to fuel its operations in Ghana and Nigeria. The dryer I respects the environment with a reduced CO2 emission rate of 12% and a reduced energy consumption of 40%.
Unilever Ghana said that until the second quarter of 2017, Vietnam was the sole supplier of its entire Drug Inventory Management Unit (SKU), which included: Pepsodent Cavity Fighter and Close Action. It indicates that the demand for these products has increased, hence the removal of the constraints of said products.
