The move comes days after Saudi Arabia announced a breakthrough to end the three-and-a-half-year dispute in the Gulf.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will reopen all land, sea and air entry points with Qatar from Saturday, the State News Agency (WAM) reported on Friday.

The move comes days after Saudi Arabia announced a breakthrough to end a bitter conflict between the Gulf Arab states and Qatar at a summit on Tuesday.

Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister said at the Gulf Cooperation Council summit in Al-Ula that Riyadh and its allies would re-establish all ties with Doha that were severed in mid-2017.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt have imposed an embargo on Qatar on claims that it supports “extremism” and is too close to its regional rival, Iran. Doha denies the charges and says the boycott was aimed at reducing its sovereignty.

A United Arab Emirates official told a virtual press conference Thursday that Arab states boycotting Qatar could resume travel and trade relations with Doha within a week of the US-backed deal, but that the re-establishment of diplomatic relations would require more time as the parties endeavored to restore confidence.

UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said the measures would include “practical airline, shipping and trade measures”.

Qatar Airways announced Thursday that it would begin rerouting some of its flights through Saudi airspace.

The restoration of air links with the regional air center of the United Arab Emirates will be important for the organization of the 2022 World Cup by Qatar.
