The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has attacked former President John Mahama for accusing the government of presiding over corruption.
The party has said that John Mahama, unlike President Akufo-Addo, cannot boldly claim to be incorruptible because of his background.
NPP Secretary General John Boadu at a press conference Thursday said Mahama’s corruption allegations against the government were unfounded.
Speaking on a Tamale-based radio station during its “thank you tour” in the northern region last week, John Mahama said under his leadership, he fought better against corruption than the Akufo-Addo government, citing the prosecution of some of its officials.
He also urged Ghanaians to vote against the nuclear power plant in 2024 to pave the way for a new government that can assess their management to ensure they do not get back the money they may have stolen,
But John Boadu said: “Former President Mahama claims without proof that the nuclear power plant stole money from Ghana and that he can ensure accountability through elections … Is this the same Mahama whose government has signed a half-baked $ 1.2 billion contract for Ghana Retail? Payment systems infrastructure? Sibton Switch Systems Ltd has just lost a $ 478 million arbitration claim from Ghana for the revocation of this agreement. The Akufo-Addo administration carried out a much more improved project for only $ 4.5 million.
The NPP scribe said the Akufo-Addo government’s anti-corruption stance enabled it to raise enough money to fund its various social intervention programs, including Free SHS and Planting for Food and Jobs.
“The NPP government has saved the country billions of dollars which has helped the government channel resources to projects like FREE SHS, Plantation for Food and Jobs, 1D1F, etc.
Mr Boadu alleged that John Mahama himself has been involved in various corruption scandals and is therefore unable to make bold statements on the fight against corruption.
“We all know that unlike President Akufo-Addo, candidate John Mahama cannot and has not been able to make a bold statement to extol his incorruptibility due to his personal involvement in numerous corruption scandals which plagued his administration, “he said. .
He further advised the former president to attack the government and report it to the appropriate institutions if he had concrete evidence of corruption in the government.
“In any event, as a former president, Mahama does not have to wait to deal with corruption. He is familiar with the institutions within government responsible for investigations and prosecutions. He can report his so-called evidence of corruption allegations regarding the nuclear power plant to any law enforcement agency Ghana can boast of, including the special prosecutor that he, Mahama, has advised. be independent, ”said John Boadu.
