Cairo, April 15 (Reuters) – Egypt has imposed temporary import duties of 15 percent on iron billets and 25 percent on steel reinforcement bars for 180 days at as of Monday, announced the Ministry of Finance.
The Ministry said the import duties are aimed at protecting the domestic industry against unfair competition.
Egypt said in 2017 that it would maintain tariffs on steel rebar rods from China, Turkey and Ukraine for five years in order to protect manufacturers local. Local newspapers said the manufacturers had urged the Ministry of Commerce to implement the latest anti-dumping measures due to a global oversupply of billets resulting from US import restrictions.
