Update: 57 dead in a fatal road accident between Kintampo and Techiman

A frontal collision between two buses on the Kintampo-Techiman road resulted in the death of 57 pbadengers.

Fifty-five died on the spot while the other two died in hospitals where they had been sent for treatment, reported Anas Sabit of Joy News.

Police say that the fatal accident occurred around 2 a.m Friday in a town called Ampoma in the Bono East area.

APA Joseph Antwi Gyawu, commander of Kintampo's divisional police, told Anas Sabbit, Joy News's Middle East correspondent, that preliminary investigations have revealed the presence of two buses, one carrying the registration number GT 5694 18 and the other GT 3916 17.

Both had a total of 108 pbadengers on board.

One of the buses caught fire after the frontal collision, reports Anas, aggravating the consequences of the accident.

According to him, the bodies of 35 of the dead can not be identified, while the 53 survivors of the fatal accident are treated in various health facilities.

He gave the following breakdown of the wounded and the place where they were sent; 40 were sent to Jema hospital; Twelve people also receive medical care at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman, while another person is treated at the Wenchi government hospital.
