The president of the opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, was arrested.
Sources at the police headquarters revealed the arrest to Joy News and added that a search was being conducted at the president's residence.
The arrest comes after Ampofo's refusal to honor an invitation to report to the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, to help him investigate the recent wave of kidnappings and arson in the country.
According to correspondence that invited him, a suspect accused him of being behind the kidnappings in the country, which prompted the police to invite him to participate in their investigations.
But the president declined the invitation. His lawyers called the invitation "political harbadment" and "intimidation".
NDC dares the police
On Monday, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Mr. Ampofo, but members of his party have pledged to support their president and resist any attempt to stop him.
During the celebrations of the 27th anniversary of the festival, Grand Accra Party President, Joseph Ade Coker dared the police to go from the front with what he says is an attempt to intimidate Mr. Ofosu Ampofo.
