Upper Dixcove chef makes a passionate appeal to Akufo-Addo

The Supreme Leader of Upper Dixcove in Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region, Obrempong Hima Dekyi, has made a passionate appeal to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene in the ongoing bloody attacks in the region.

The appeal follows Monday’s brutal attack on an Upper Dixcove deputy chief, Obrempong’s mother Hima Dekyi and other members of the Upper Dixcove Traditional Council.

The dispute is said to be over land between the two supreme of Upper and Lower Dixcove.

Monday’s new attacks in Lower Dixcove left residents in a state of fear and apprehension.

Teaching and learning as well as some business activities have been affected.

Addressing a press conference a day after the incident, Obrempong Dekyi insisted that even though there are two supreme, the rights and interests of all Dixcove land are still reserved for him.

According to him, both historical and numerous court decisions, which are common knowledge, make him the lord of Upper and Lower Dixcove.

But in order for peace and unity to prevail in Dixcove, he voluntarily left the majority of the land in the custody of Dixcove Supreme Leader Nana Kwesi Agyeman.

He is however surprised that Nana Kwesi Agyeman continues to fight him on one of the lands, Troum, reserved for Upper Dixcove.

“My stool created its supremacy. It was a division under me. My stool was made Paramountcy in 1692 against his in 1921, about 3 centuries ago.

He continued, “For political reasons he was elevated to the rank of preponderance. However, the right and interest in the field are always reserved to me. He did not understand why he became a supreme leader and yet had to pledge his allegiance to me. He took the case to court on multiple platforms. We have traveled the length and breadth of every court in the world, from pre-colonial times to colonial season and even in our current seasons, and there has been a final judgment to end these disputes. Those who came before him and myself and those who may come after us are bound to respect the court’s decision. But what do we see here? It seems that there is a rule of force rather than the rule of law. We live in a country where we are governed by laws which if I do not agree with you on a subject, it does not give rise to attacks ”.

Obrempong Dekyi said it cannot be the case that anarchy can spread.

He noted that if lives and properties are lost, Dixcove’s development suffers as well.

“… I am through this by calling on the President of the Republic and all those who intend to intervene and find a lasting solution to this problem which is shattering us so that the inhabitants of Dixcove continue to live the peace we have enjoyed, and everyone will get up in the morning or at any time of the day and go about their normal tasks without fear or panic. “
