UPSA ranked 3rd among the best universities in sub-Saharan Africa

The University of Accra Professional Studies (UPSA) has been ranked among the top universities in sub-Saharan Africa at the new world rankings.

It badesses the social and economic impact of universities on the basis of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The University Impact ranking of the Times Higher Education University is the first global attempt to document evidence of the impact of universities on society, rather than being limited to the performance of research and teaching.

Parameters include university policies on academic freedom, the use of secure employment contracts, and their share of female leadership positions, and are based on 11 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The results of the first edition reveal a new hierarchy of various global institutions compared to research-based rankings, with Auckland, New Zealand, and two Canadian institutions – McMaster University and the University of British Columbia – ranking overall in the top three.

Three Ghanaian universities were ranked third in the sub-Saharan region. The three: UPSA, the University of Ghana and Ashesi University all completed 301 placements.

Other universities in sub-Saharan Africa are the University of Western Cape (South Africa), the University of Ibadan (Nigeria) and Covenant University (Nigeria), ranked respectively by 101, 200, 201, 300 and 301+.

The Impact ranking also makes UPSA one of the 15 best universities on the African continent.

Dr. Edwin Tetteh Ayernor, Director of Information Management at UPSA, said, "It has proven that UPSA is a force to be trusted in quality education on the African front" .

Although Mr. Ayernor believes the University could have done better in the overall ranking, he added, "This exceptional achievement is a testament to UPSA's commitment to sustainable development, good corporate governance and good corporate governance. positive social impact through research, teaching and knowledge transfer.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the blueprint for a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, peace and justice.
