Accra, July
29, GNA – Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, Vice-Chancellor of
Accra University of Professional Studies (UPSA) has engaged companies
entities, philanthropic organizations and individuals to support the
Vice Chancellor's Endowment Fund (VCEF).
He said
every year, more than 1,350 qualified students to enter the UPSA were not
able to do so because of financial difficulties.
He said a
On average 300 students postpone their studies to UPSA each year due to
financial need; adding that a significant number of UPSA students are giving up
before the end of the last year due to financial difficulties.

VCEF is

contributions from the University, in order to generate income for
scholarships to support the bright but needy students of the University.
Prof Amartey
stated that the Fund was targeting 100 million GHC as seed money out of four
years.
He said to
demonstrate their commitment to the Fund, the entire UPSA community
(individuals and groups) periodically supported the Fund.
"Last year,
the fund has awarded 20 scholarships to deserving students, "said the vice-chancellor
I said.
"That's the
Management's intention to increase the number of scholarships awarded in 2019/2020
academic year. To reach the target, we call on everyone to donate
to generously support this noble cause. "
Prof Amartey
reminded that at the end of the process of admission to university 2018/2019
year, the total number of people who have been admitted and who have registered new
the students stood at 4,526.
He said this
1,043 graduate students, 2,768 undergraduate students and 715 graduate students
students; indicating that this represented an increase of 11.80% in
registration relative to the previous school year.
He noted that
the university had planned a further increase in the number of students enrolled
about 15% during the 2019/2020 academic year.
"We hope that
achieve this goal of admission that improving the profile of the University has
made the preferred choice of most potential candidates, particularly because of
our commitment to developing teaching, learning and research facilities,
Prof Amartey said.
He added
that student registration in the morning, evening and weekend
also helps optimize the use of physical facilities and human resources.
Prof Amartey
said that the university was currently mixing professional programs with
degree programs, aimed at making UPSA graduates more relevant and
able to work thanks to their dual qualification system.
He congratulated
graduates to finish hard and to get a scholarship with
professionalism.
