The United States administered 356,433,665 doses of COVID-19 vaccines nationwide on Sunday morning and distributed 415,957,645 doses, the USnCenters for Disease Control and Prevention said.
Those numbers are up from the 355,768,825 doses of vaccine that the CDC said had taken up arms on Aug. 14 out of 415,915,655 doses delivered.
The agency said 198,088,722 people had received at least one dose while 168,362,058 people were fully vaccinated on Saturday.
The CDC’s tally includes the two-dose vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer / BioNTech, as well as the single-shot vaccine from Johnson & Johnson at 6 a.m. on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the number of children hospitalized with COVID-19 in the United States hit a record high of just over 1,900 on Saturday, as southern hospitals were exhausted to fight epidemics caused by the Delta variant highly transmissible.
The Delta variant, which is spreading rapidly among most of the unvaccinated portion of the U.S. population, has caused an increase in hospitalizations in recent weeks, pushing the number of pediatric hospitalizations to 1,902 on Saturday, according to department data. American Health and Human Services.
Children currently account for about 2.4% of COVID-19 hospitalizations in the country.
Children under 12 are not eligible to receive the vaccine, making them more vulnerable to infection with the new, highly transmissible variant.
