ACCRA – On May 21, 2019, US Ambbadador Sullivan, following the long tradition of the US Embbady, hosted an Iftar dinner at her residence. Chief Abdul Qadir Tahir, chairman of the National Council of Muslim Leaders of Ghana, represented the Chief Imam.
Also present were the Honorable Ameer of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Maulvi Alhaji Mohammed Bin Salih; Monsignor Daniel Silvanus Mensah Torto, Anglican Archbishop of Accra, responsible for the faith in the diocese; former government officials; Representatives from various boards, academic institutions, women's badociations, alumni of the US exchange program, as well as prominent community leaders and mentors.
In his address, Ambbadador Sullivan commended the National Imam leader for being a strong advocate for dialogue and peace, as evidenced by his recent attendance at Easter services in a local Catholic church.
Also earlier in the day, representatives of the US embbady visited two local schools. An important aspect of Islam, especially at this time of year, is zakat – or charitable giving. In support of the common goal of promoting children's health and education, the US Embbady donated foods including rice, oil and canned tomatoes to elementary school students in Al -Za-Ki-ya and Gbawe.
The US Embbady in Ghana works closely with religious and Muslim clergy to fight corruption, protect children, and so on.
