US House Condemns Trump Attacks on Congressional Women as Racist

The US House of Representatives voted in favor of condemning President Donald Trump after a series of attacks on four women in Congress.

The symbolic resolution denounced the "racist remarks of Mr. Trump that legitimized the fear and hatred of New Americans and people of color".

Trump was accused of racism and xenophobia for telling members of Congress to leave the country.

The president has since tweeted: "I do not have racist bones in my body!"

Tuesday's debate in the Democrat-controlled House was an extremely polarized debate, with many Republicans insisting that the vote itself was a violation of decorum.

It was adopted by 240 votes to 187.
Four Republicans and the only independent legislator and former Republican MP, Justin Amash, joined the 235 Democrats in approving the resolution.

The four Republicans were Will Hurd (Texas Congressman), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pennsylvania), Fred Upton (Michigan) and Susan Brooks (Indiana).

Pbading a resolution – which is a statement of opinion and not legally binding – criticizing the presidential conduct is very rare.
