US authorities said that a plane had blown up tires while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport, causing it to skid on the runway before stopping.

United Airlines said the 627 flight from Denver was landing at 1 pm Saturday (local time) with 166 pbadengers when the tires burst.

United spokesman Robert Einhorn said the plane was still on the runway.

The FAA first indicated that it had slipped off the sidewalk, but that it then "swung to the left side of the sidewalk".

Pbadenger Louisa Horn said CBS that "the plane rebounded several times, then that he escaped all control".

"You really think the worst … think the plane could get out of control and hit a building."

The airline said slightly injured pbadengers refused to see a doctor and no one was seriously injured.

The airport said it had resumed flights shortly before 3 pm but expected delays. He later said that it was operating "limited capacity" after the National Transportation Safety Bureau had declared that the plane should not be moved before the arrival of the investigators.
