Washington:
US President Joe Biden has no plans to call his predecessor Donald Trump, the White House has said.
“There is no scheduled appeal,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters at a press conference Thursday.
She was responding to questions about Biden’s remarks a day earlier when he said Trump left her a “very generous” letter in the Oval Office, and planned to speak to her.
Trump did not attend his inauguration, which is rare for an incumbent president.
“What he was conveying was that he didn’t want to post a private note without the permission of the former president. But I wouldn’t say he was looking for it over the phone, he was just trying to be respectful. at that time a private letter that was sent, ”Psaki said.
It is customary for outgoing presidents to write a letter to their successors and leave it for them on the resolute desk in the Oval Office.
However, given that the former president shattered many of the traditions of the past, including skipping Biden’s inauguration ceremony and never officially congratulating him on his election victory, it was not clear until Wednesday whether Trump would maintain the tradition of outgoing presidents leaving notes to their successors.
“The president wrote a very generous letter. Because it was private, I won’t talk about it until I tell him about it. But it was generous,” Biden told reporters in the White House Oval Office on Wednesday.
