Online Securities Brokerage E * Trade Financial is preparing to launch cryptocurrency trading services.
In a report released Saturday by Bloomberg, citing "a person familiar with the problem," E * Trade will initially add commercial support for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), with more crypto-currencies in the future.
The US broker has also finalized a third party to hold cryptocurrencies, Nathaniel Popper, technical reporter at the New York Times, tweeted Friday.
Founded in 1982, E * Trade, listed on the Nasdaq, has nearly 4 million customers. Last year, the company also launched trading in CME group bitcoin futures for clients.
Traditional financial players are increasingly looking to offer cryptocurrency services. Last week, another broker, TD Ameritrade, was reportedly trial bitcoin and litecoin (LTC) on its platform. Last year, TD Ameritrade invested an undisclosed amount in the ErisX cryptocurrency exchange.
Robinhood commercial trading trading app, on the other hand, launched crypto-currency trading services more than a year ago, and recently ad a plan to launch an initial public offering (IPO).
