If you have not upgraded to iOS4, VolumeButtonExtender available on Cydia is worth checking. Although the iPhone offers two ways to control your music, you must use the screen to do it. This is not a great solution if you are jogging, if you use it by car or if you need to turn the volume or skip tracks quickly with just a hand and minimal attention.

What you will need:

  • An iPhone / iPod Touch jailbroken with Cydia installed.
  • Wi-Fi and internet access on the device.
  • VolumeButtonExtender from Cydia

1. To begin, you will need a jailbroken device with Cydia installed. If you need to jailbreak your device, check out our jailbreak guides. Tap the Cydia icon to open it.

2. After launching Cydia, choose the 'Sections' tab and select
"Tweaks."

3. Open the Backgrounder package and click 'Install'. Then choose 'Confirm' to start the download and installation.

Choose the 'Restart Springboard' option once the installation is complete.

4. You can now launch the application from anywhere on the iPhone (lock screen, home screen, in-house applications, etc.) and even when the application is running. device is in sleep mode.

Hold down the volume up or down buttons to play or pause tracks.

Hold down the 'volume up' button to move to the next track.
