The Association of University Teachers of Ghana (UTAG) has called the Vice Chancellor of the University of Winneba Education, Reverend Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, to resign.

This follows recent controversies that have upset the peace of the university, following the dismissal of some speakers.

National President of UTAG, Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah explained Reverend Prof Afful Broni should resign on the grounds that he has acted badly as Vice Chancellor and is unable to maintain the university together for unity and progress.

He further requested that all dismissed lecturers be reinstated unconditionally.

In a radio interview with Accra Citi FM Wednesday, Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah also called on the board of governors of the university to act as a responsible council because they do not seem to do what is right to enforce the constitution.

He added that lecturers on the EU campus must rise without fear for their democratic rights.

"At the moment, about 30 people have been fired, demoted, suspended or arbitrarily transferred. Notice that before that, the former president, Mr. Bekoe (former president of the UTAG, Dr. Samuel Ofori Bekoe) was sacked because of the confusion created by the same administration, "he said, explaining that other speakers and officials suffered the same fate.

He then called on the students to continue their protests peacefully until their voices were heard.
