The Association of University Teachers of Ghana (UTAG) has pbaded the first official step in favor of the reinstatement of lecturers who were sacked by Professor Afful Broni, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana. Winneba Education (UEW).
The report indicates that a total of 30 speakers have been fired, suspended or demoted by the VC since taking office. The move, which was not well received by a student at the school, fueled a protest at the school grounds that led to the destruction of properties.
In order to restore peace and calm, UEW students request the reinstatement of the dismissed lecturers, considering that they have been injured for reasons that they describe as fragile, unjustifiable and vindictive.
Yesterday, March 15, 2019, in an interview with Clbad FM, Secretary General of UTAG, Dr. Ahmed Jinapor explained that his team had taken the first step towards reinstating courses. According to him, he was asked to write to the school council for the reintegration process to begin.
"So, the first step for us to reinstate the UEW's fired staff, I was commissioned as Secretary of the UTTAG to write to the board for review."
"We are therefore waiting to see what the council's position will be in this direction. We hope that, in the interest of unity, reconciliation and peace in this institution, of all those affected by the administration of Professor Afful Broni, these decisions must be revoked and at best canceled, "said Dr. Ahmed Jinapor.
He further pointed out that UTAG was still sticking to his decision to request the resignation of Professor Afful Broni. He insists that if they change their minds in this respect, it will be on the basis of subsequent meetings with the national leaders of the UTTAG.
"Regarding the question of the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor, I think that the UTAG National, in its current version, has not taken a position in the opposite direction. Any position that would go against the principle or badert it would be based on any type of meeting that would take place at the level of the national executive, "said Dr. Ahmed.
