Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia met with African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretary General Wamkele Keabetswe Mene at Jubilee House in Accra.

The meeting, among others, discussed the unique opportunities that the AfCFTA offers to the African continent to strengthen its cohesion and development.

Vice President Bawumia said: “With AfCFTA, we are better positioned to take advantage of digital technology for Pan African payment and settlement systems.

“The benefits of these transcontinental payment platforms and interoperability cannot be overstated and I look forward to this as soon as possible.”

The AfCFTA got off to a smooth start on January 1, 2021, after years of uncertainty and political consultations.

The continental free trade bloc intends to unify Africa’s 1.3 billion people, with an estimated economic strength of $ 3.4 trillion.

It is the largest trading bloc since the creation of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
