Veep praises peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia on Monday welcomed peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians in the country.

He commended the leaders of both religions for social cohesion and in particular asked Muslims to intensify prayers during this period of Ramadan in order to deepen the prevailing national peace as the country prepares for the elections of 2020.

The Vice President praised his two-day visit to the Bono and Ahafo areas, alongside hundreds of Muslim worshipers at the Sampa Central Mosque, in the North Jaman district of the Bono region.

Accompanied by ministers and deputy ministers of state, members of parliament, the vice president was in both regions to interact with Muslim communities while they observed the annual Islamic tradition of prayers and fasting from one month.

Vice President Bawumia noted that religious and religious issues were very sensitive, saying that it was extremely difficult for Muslims and Christians to coexist elsewhere and that the Zongo communities in particular should be applauded.

He reiterated that the development of Zongo communities remained one of the government's top priorities, ensuring that each of the country's 1,080 Zongo communities would benefit from the Zongo Development Fund.

Responding to a call from Alhaji Seidu Adams, Jaman district chief, Imam north, Dr. Bawumia badured that the government would make the Sampa City roads of a length of three kilometers suitable for the district capital.

He added that the government would also consider the establishment of an Islamic high school in the region to allow many young Zongo to benefit from the free SHS program.

The vice president presented 25 bags of rice and 25 bags of sugar and a sum of money not revealed to the leaders of the community of Zongo in Sampa.

Alhaji Adams had previously appealed to the Vice President for it also helps to remedy the poor water situation in the region.
