Vegetable vendors in Sunyani Municipality have expressed concern over the lack of facilities for vegetable conservation leading to financial losses and bankruptcy.

They stated that one of the main challenges of the vegetable sector was to preserve it, citing that vegetables such as cabbage, lettuce and cucumber were extremely perishable and difficult to conserve for long.

In an interview with Sunyani on Wednesday at the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nana Bosoma's weekly market, Nana Afia Ampobeng, a vegetable salesperson for about 20 years, said that selling vegetables "is an activity very risky a loss ".

Therefore, customers can not buy large quantities because of their fast and high perishable nature, said Nana Ampobeng, who is Akwamuhemaa of Asufufu, a suburb of Sunyani.

She appealed to hotel managers, restaurant operators and food vendors who need to buy vegetables in large quantities instead of going to other places. regions outside the municipality.

In another interview with the RNG, a member of the women's health staff who pleaded anonymity stated that vegetables had many nutritional values, as research has shown that they contain essential nutrients for health and the preservation of the human body.

She said that "eating a diet rich in vegetables can reduce the risk of stroke, cancer, heart disease and type 2 diabetes" but that a relatively lesser number of people consume it (vegetables) in society.

She called for intensive awareness and education campaigns in health facilities, schools and churches so that people will enjoy the benefits of eating more vegetables.
