Sunyani, July 21, GNA – The vegetable
sellers from the Sunyani municipality expressed concern about the lack of
vegetable preservation facilities result in financial losses and
collapse of their businesses.

They said a major challenge in the vegetable
business is its preservation, citing that vegetables like cabbage, lettuce and
Cucumber is very perishable and difficult to store for a long time.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency
(GNA) at the Nana Bosoma weekly market Wednesday in Sunyani, Nana Afia
Ampobeng, a vegetable seller for about 20 years, said:
selling "is a very risky business because you can easily run at a loss".

As a result, customers can not buy in large quantities
quantities because of their fast and high perishable nature, Nana Ampobeng,
which is the "Akwamuhemaa" of Asufufu, a suburb of Sunyani said.

She called on hotel managers, restaurant
operators and sellers of food products who need vegetables in large quantities to buy
instead of going to other areas outside the municipality.

In another interview with the RNG a woman
health staff who pleaded anonymity said that vegetables have a lot of
nutritional values ​​because research has shown that they contain nutrients that
are vital for the health and maintenance of the human body.

She said "eat a diet rich in vegetables
reduce the risk of stroke, cancer, heart disease and type 2 diabetes ",
relatively fewer people consume it (vegetables) in society.

She called for intensive sensitization and
educational campaigns in health institutions, schools and churches for
population to enjoy the benefits of eating more vegetables.
