The initial service was based on an internal 5G approach and offered typical speeds of 300 Mbps. It will not compete with gigabit optical fiber, but it is faster than many fixed connections and, if you have an indoor antenna, allows you to install yourself.
As always, the main problem is the slow deployment of 5G. Verizon's current 5G is only available in some cities in 10 cities. It can not be deployed as quickly as when ultra-wideband technology requires a large number of cell sites to provide robust coverage. This scope is expected to expand to 30 cities by the end of 2019, but that means it will still take a long time before 5G Home arrives in your neighborhood. That said, it is more useful to deal with the limited coverage of FiOS and other wireline broadband services.
