VerSe Innovation, the parent company of popular news aggregator Dailyhunt and short video app Josh, said on Thursday it had raised more than $ 450 million in a new round of funding, just five months after securing $ 200 million, as the Indian startup seeks to expand its offerings to international markets.
Siguler Guff, Baillie Gifford, subsidiaries of Carlyle Asia Partners Growth II and others funded VerSe Innovation’s Series I funding round, while existing investors Sofina Group, Qatar Investment Authority and BCap participated.
VerSe Innovation said in a statement that its valuation has more than doubled in the past five months without disclosing a specific figure. The startup was valued at over $ 1 billion in its Series H funding round.
The Google and Microsoft-backed startup claimed that Josh, who has amassed over 115 million monthly active users, of whom 56 million use the app every day. Dailyhunt, the startup said, has amassed more than 300 million monthly active users.
VerSe Innovation is betting on creating a family of applications that serve users in dozens of local languages. Dailyhunt, for example, offers its content in 14 languages from more than 100,000 partners and content creators.
