On July 24, 2019, the National Veterinary Services laboratories in Ames, Iowa, confirmed the discovery of a vesicular stomatitis virus infection (Indiana serotype) at an equine site in Platte County. , in Wyoming. The horses present at the scene meet the definition of case of infection with compatible clinical signs and positive results in isolation of the virus. This is the index case of VSV 2019 for Wyoming.
According to the USDA APHIS July 24 VSV status report, since the beginning of the 2019 outbreak, 209 VSV-affected locations have been identified (124 confirmed, 85 suspects).
Colorado identified 134 affected locals (71 confirmed positives and 63 suspects) in 10 counties (Adams County, Archuleta County, Boulder County, Broomfield County, Delta County, La Plata County, Larimer County, Montezuma County, Morgan County and Weld County).
New Mexico identified 37 affected premises (28 confirmed positive and nine suspected) in six counties (Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, Santa Fe, Taos and Valencia counties).
Texas identified 37 affected premises (24 confirmed positive and 13 suspected) located in 13 counties (Bastrop, Coleman, Hays, Hood, Johnson, Kerr, Kinney, Shackelford, Somervell, Taylor, Tom Green, Val Verde and Wichita Counties).
A total of 14 local suspects or previously infected with VSV completed quarantine and were released.
Since the last status report (July 18, 2019), USDA APHIS has reported the following:
Colorado (40 new confirmed positive locals, 38 new suspect locals)
- Adams County – 1 new confirmed premises
- Archuleta County (new infected county) – 2 local confirmed, 1 suspect local
- Boulder County – 8 new confirmed premises, 3 new suspect premises
- Broomfield County – 1 new suspect premises
- Delta County (new infected county) – 1 confirmed positive local
- La Plata County – 5 new confirmed premises, 6 new suspect premises
- Larimer County – 14 new confirmed positive results and 25 new suspect premises
- Montezuma County (new infected county) – 1 confirmed positive local
- Morgan County (new infected county) – 1 confirmed positive local
- Weld County – 7 new positives confirmed, 2 new suspicious local
- The following premises, suspected or previously infected with VSV, were released from quarantine: 1 in Larimer County and 2 in County Weld
New Mexico (1 new positive confirmed, 6 new suspicious local)
- Rio Arriba County – 1 new suspect premises
- Santa Fe County – 2 new suspect premises
- Valencia County – 1 confirmed new HIV positive, 3 new suspect premises
- The following premises, previously infected with VSV, were released from quarantine: 1 in Los Alamos County and 3 in Sandoval County
Texas (4 new confirmed premises, 11 new suspect premises)
- Bastrop County – 2 new confirmed premises, 10 new suspect premises
- Hays County – 1 new suspect premises
- Hood County – 1 new confirmed positive locals
- Somervell County (new infected county) – 1 confirmed positive local
