The actor Vic Mignogna has filed lawsuits for a million dollars against Funimation's colleagues, Monica Rial, Jamie Marchi and Ronald Toye, in Tarrant County, Texas. In the lawsuit, Mignogna says that a badual harbadment investigation that resulted in his withdrawal from several projects constitutes defamation, interference in business and civil conspiracy.
This follows a wave of malpractice charges resulting in the removal of Mignogna from Funimation The Morose Mononokean 2 and the rooster teeth RWBY. The allegations began to surface around the publication of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, in which Mignogna expresses the character of the title.
In January, the hashtag #KickVic began circulating on social media as fans and creators shared their meeting with Mignogna. A counter hashtag, #IStandWithVic, created by Mignogna fans. The outcry prompted Mignogna to issue a statement rebutting the allegations, but in February, independent investigations led him to evade the list of nine conventions: Phoenix Fan Fusion, Anime NYC, Anime Milwaukee, Kawaiicon, Ancient City Con, Denver Comicon, Florida Supercon, Raleigh Supercon, Kamicon and Hudson Valley Comicon. Kamehacon Dallas removed him, but resumed his appearance on March 24.
On February 11, Funimation publicly announced its investigation of Mignogna's behavior and removed it from any future plans. This apparently includes a special feature on the Dragon Ball Super: Broly DVD and Blu-Ray. (Polygon contacted Funimation for clarification and additional comments on withdrawals and lawsuits, but the company was not able to provide comments at the time of publication.)
In the lawsuit, Mignogna claims that Rial, Marchi and Toye intervened directly in his affairs and that all the statements they made against him are false. In the description of the situation, Mignogna's statement suggests that the defendants continued to "bombard" him on Twitter, continuing to discuss the allegations.
