Victims of domestic violence advised to "open"

Ho, May 23, GNA – Mr. Edward Oduro Kwarteng,
Commander of the Volta Regional Police, advised victims of domestic violence
"open" to the police on issues of romantic relationships strained to
avoid aggravated anger leading to violent attacks and death.

He said he shared some of the problems that caused
psychological trauma with the police and the good organisms had become
extremely important given the increase in the number of deaths resulting from
domestic violence.

The commander of the regional police said this during a
press conference on the alleged murder of a 44-year-old woman by her husband,
Emmanuel Dorfe, 55, in Hodzo-Aviefe, a suburb of the municipality of Ho, last Thursday.

He said hiding vital information from
tense relationship of the police was "deadly" and said that he was
important for the public not to forget that the police were their friend and
protective.

Kwarteng told the media that on May 13,
In 2019, the deceased Vivian Dorfe reported the suspect to the Tokokoe police for
aggression on the lack of maintenance of their children, case which was returned
Regional Unit for Victims of Domestic Violence and Victims (DOVVSU) and
under investigation.

He said during the investigations, the two suspects
and the dead were to report to the station on Friday, May 17, 2019 to
"appropriate actions."

He said a day before their planned
meeting, the suspect was reported to DOVVSU with Philip Dorgbetor,
who told the police that the chief of Hodzo-Aviefe had asked him to
remove the case from the police.

Mr. Kwarteng said, because the arrangement
was "inappropriate", the suspect was formally arrested and obtained
deposit the same day to report on Friday 17 May 2019.

He added that their checks revealed later
such intervention had been made by the chief as mentioned by Dorgbetor and the
suspect.

The regional commander said the same day:
the suspect ambushed and murdered his wife macabreily on the way to the church
the full light of their son.

Mr. Kwarteng declared police investigations
showed that the deceased was hiding vital information about the use of offensive
weapon by the suspect on May 13, 2019 in his first statement to the police.
