Victoria Azarenka said the jet lag had left her "with no idea of the time or what was going on" after defeating Vera Zvonareva at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
Former world number one Azarenka, coming from Australia to Stuttgart, won 7-5 6-4 in the first round.
The Belarussian said the effects of his flight were a "daunting challenge," adding, "I am very happy with the way I handled it."
29-year-old Azarenka now faces defending champion Karolina Pliskova.
Pliskova, world number four in the Czech Republic, is among the top four players in the world.
His compatriot and world number three Petra Kvitova, who had a second-round pbad, qualified for the quarter-finals with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Belgian qualifier Greet Minnen.
