Game of thrones is back, but even those who have been watching her closely may have missed some of the top cameos in last season's premiere. Did you know Star wars Creator George Lucas visited the set during the filming of "Winterfell"? HBO started producing Revealed game, a series of documentary shorts made during the seventh season of the show and which continue for season 8. This is a high-quality video behind the scenes, which is clearly designed for the fans, both informative and entertaining (you have to love these bloopers placed sporadically everywhere).
showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are friends with the It's always sunny in Philadelphia guys – they wrote an episode of this show and appeared as "Bored Lifeguard # 1 and # 2" in another – so it's cool to see McElhenney (aka "Mac") finally making an appearance on The Thrones years later. Not sure why Martin Starr was there, but more power for him!
As for George Lucas, it makes sense that he pbades because Benioff and Weiss are working on a new Star wars trilogy for his former company, Lucasfilm. In addition, Lucas has another Star wars connection on the set in the form of actress Emilia Clarke, who played Qi'ra in Solo: A story of Star Wars.
"When we heard that George Lucas wanted to visit, we thought it might be a joke. And then we were really excited and nervous because it's George Lucas, "said Benioff. I like this video because it is much more detailed than the shorter "Inside the Episode" featurettes that also accompany each episode. But do not hesitate to watch that too! You know what I mean? This first featurette is infinitely better. This one has some interesting little moments, but is largely telling us what we already know. One thing to note though: this waterfall where Jon and Dany landed was apparently supposed to be a place where Jon hunted in his childhood. I do not think the episode itself indicates it in any way, but that's it!
With a record (for HBO), 17.4 million viewers watched the first season of the eighth season yesterday, which caused the biggest HBO streaming night, and offered fans a whole new sequence. Instead of flying over the known world map, it shows a recently damaged wall, moves briefly to Last Hearth, and then spends most of its time focusing on two key locations: Winterfell and King's Landing. This opening credits have always been among the coolest on television, and it is particularly interesting to see them devote even more time to creating recognizable areas from these two sets. Keep an eye on the details, like the Targaryen dragons who burn cities on the bands of the astrolabe, a Lannister soldier holding a wolf's head cut beside a wolf full of arrows hanging in the middle of the frame, and even smaller Easter eggs, such as The Card of Westeros de Cersei on the floor.
