Vigilance is against Ghanaian democracy – NPP, NDC – agree | Policy

Ghana's two main political parties agreed that the democratic system should eliminate militancy because it was "hostile" to it.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) reached this agreement after an "open" and "exhaustive" deliberation mediated by the National Peace Council (NPC) in Accra.

The deliberation followed the call of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to convene the two main political parties to dissolve their respective militia groups.

It was held on the premises of the Council on Tuesday, 9 April.

The presidents of both parties led high-level delegations of former and former ministers of state to the meeting, which largely took place behind closed doors.

A statement issued at the end of the meeting, signed by Freddie Worsemao Blay of the NPP, and Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo of the NDC, said the two sides "have committed themselves to exploring other processes in order eliminate vigilance ".

However, they were not in agreement on the immediate objective of the mediation.

While the ruling party calls for the eradication of the "militancy of political parties in all its ramifications," the opposition party wants to eradicate "political militancy in all its ramifications."

But they both witnessed the dissolution of self-defense groups within political parties or for political purposes, banning the ownership, involvement or use of such groups by political parties or political parties. their members and cooperating with state agencies and stakeholders to ensure the total eradication of such groups or any incidence of vigilance.
