Some people who claim to have been attacked during the partial election of Ayawaso in January have sued the state for illegal aggression, arrest and detention against them.

The victims are demanding an order directing the respondent to pay each victim an amount of 250,000 Swedish crowns as compensation for the violation of their fundamental rights, unlawful and unjustified.

They also ask the court for an order implementing their fundamental rights.

"Take note that counsel for the plaintiff on behalf of the plaintiff must apply to the Court for an order implementing the plaintiffs' fundamental human rights and seeking compensation for unlawful badault, arrest and detention, in accordance with Article 14 (5) of the Convention 1992 Constitution and Article 9 (4) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) for the reasons stated in the Affidavit in Support and for any order that this honorable tribunal will judge useful, "he said.

National security agents reportedly fired at a polling center in La Bawaleshie, injuring about six NDC supporters in the election on Thursday, January 31, 2019.

The National Democratic Congress subsequently opted not to participate in the race, claiming that it had made the decision to prevent further attacks against their members.

Sam George, a minority MP, was also badaulted by several National Security personnel during the incident.

The violence that characterized the by-election was largely condemned by civil society organizations, including CODEO and UNDP.

President Akufo-Addo said that those found guilty would be treated.
