The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has called on President Akufo-Addo to prioritize the country's security situation.
In a statement, the Commission said the violence at the Bawaleshie polling center in Thursday's by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency is a reflection of the overall security situation. in the country.
CHRAJ also condemned "unequivocal acts of violence resulting in serious bodily harm to certain members of the electorate" in the by-election.
Their reaction follows a shooting in the home of Delali Kwesi Brempong, a candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The episode led to the withdrawal of the NDC from the by-election.
Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, national president of the NDC, said the party had withdrawn from the elections for security reasons.
What happened?
Gunmen dressed in khaki pants and national security shirts stormed the residence of Mr. Kwesi Brempong, who is near the voting center of La Bawaleshie, and fired, according to eyewitnesses.
The NDC national president said their candidate was traumatized by the problem and that the party had decided that no one should die because of the by-election.
Media videos showed gunmen hitting civilians, including Ningo Prampram deputy Sam George, who was on site to observe the proceedings.
The reactions
President Nana Akufo-Addo condemned the attack and called for the prosecution of those found guilty.
"I expect all those who are found guilty, at the end of the process, to be subjected to all the rigors of the law," he said in a statement on Friday.
Former President John Mahama and the aspiring NDC flag bearer, while condemning the attacks, said that the NDC was able to do worse.
"I want to reiterate that the NDC has a revolutionary root and that when it comes to unleashing violence, no one can beat us against that," John Mahama told his supporters in Adaklu in the Volta region.
