VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (AP) – Virginia Beach officials are focusing on the victims of the country's latest mbad fire, not the suspect.
City officials quickly released Saturday details and photos of the 12 people who died on Friday.
They spoke little about the man who was identified as being the shooter inside the city building.
The police pronounced the name of DeWayne Craddock at a press conference and promised not to mention it anymore. The 40-year-old man died during a shootout with officers.
This coastal city in Virginia is using an increasingly common public information strategy: Communicate more details about victims of mbad shootings than murderers to limit the exposure of criminals and prevent mug shots.
Deputy City Manager of Public Safety Steve Cover said officials "wanted to control the story."
