Virus detected in traveler after quarantine

ANKARA

A traveler from the Australian state of Victoria tested positive for the novel coronavirus after serving the mandatory 14-day quarantine in hotels, the state’s health department said on Tuesday.

“The individual tested negative several times during his quarantine period and left the facility on February 7,” the Victoria Department of Health said on Twitter.

She requested testing in response to the current outbreak at Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport, returning a positive result on Tuesday, he added.

Health officials said they were seeking other close contacts of the woman, including those who completed their quarantine period on February 7.

“They will have to isolate themselves for 14 days. We are in contact with this group. It will come to them as difficult news, but we are as careful as possible in our response to this epidemic,” the department added.

According to data from the Department of Health, Australia has so far recorded 28,857 cases of the coronavirus with 909 deaths since the outbreak in the country.

Victoria, the second most populous state, is the most affected state in the country, with 20,456 cases of the virus, including 820 deaths.
