Ras Mubarak, MP Kumbungu
NDC deputy Kumbungu on Monday urged the Ghanaian government to take revenge for the visa ban imposed on Ghanaian nationals by the United States.
The United States Embbady in Ghana began Monday the suspension of the issuance of all new visas to certain categories of Ghanaian candidates.
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) explained that visa penalties were made necessary by Ghana's "lack of cooperation" in accepting the citizens of his country expelled from the United States.
In a statement announcing visa restrictions, DHS also warned that Ghana would face more sanctions if the government's position did not change.
"Without an appropriate response from Ghana, the scope of these sanctions could be extended to a broader population," said Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
Kumbungu's legislator, however, called the US government's bluff to qualify the ban as "disrespectful."
"We are a sovereign country, you can not just expect us to expel 7,000 people who claim to be Ghanaians without thorough filtering and verification," he said.
According to him, the government of Ghana must remain on its positions and react to the same extent.
He said, "I look forward to seeing the Government of Ghana respond in the same proportions. We are equal partners in this field. If the United States of America decides to ignore the burden of proof that clearly shows that we must take our time before sending these people back to Ghana, Ghanaians should help the government retaliate in the same way. "
In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration denied allegations by the United States that they were not cooperating for the expulsion of Ghanaians kidnapped from the United States, which had led to the visa ban.
