The Ambbadador of Spain to Ghana, Her Excellency Alicia Rico Pérez del Pulgar, and the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kwame Asuah-Takyi, paid a courtesy call to the Chief of Tamale at the Palace of Dakpema.
The visit allowed the two leaders to formally meet the new Dakpema of Tamale and congratulate him on his new position.
In his address, the Comptroller General of Immigration informed Dakpema that the Ghana Immigration Service and the Ambbadador of Spain had visited his territory to implement establishes a state-of-the-art Migration Information Center (MIC) for the people of Tamale.
He added that the MIC commissioned would provide adequate travel information to future migrants. This is one of the ways to reduce irregular migration.
Kwame Asuah-Takyi, CGI, said, "Immigration officers and men in Tamale have already started sensitization and sensitization programs in their community, raising awareness of the dangers of travel without having sufficient knowledge of security.
He advised young people not to be persuaded and to be pushed into the migration of modern slavery, which can make them overworked in a foreign country in search of jobs and non-existent wealth .
He said that "young people can motivate themselves and stay in Ghana to develop their country and provide their quota rather than falling into ignorance between unscrupulous individuals who seek only to exploit them."
For her part, the Ambbadador of Spain encouraged the gathering and the people of the North to take advantage of the opportunity to create the Center using it for the purposes for which it was created.
She said her government wanted to create ways to protect the lives of future migrants who, due to the unavailability of the right information, could migrate at the risk of their lives. Therefore, the creation of the MIC to provide free expert advice and accurate information to Ghanaians to prioritize a safe migration, "she added.
Welcoming its august visitors, Dakpema expressed its enthusiasm and gratitude to the Ambbadador and the CGI for asking them to pray for prosperity, protection and a long life. He called for more incentives and help for the people of Tamale.
