PanARMENIAN.Net – Take Vitamin D can prolong the lives of people who develop CancerMedicl News Today reports based on a recent badysis of clinical trials.

Researchers at Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing badyzed data from randomized controlled trials comparing people taking vitamin D supplements with those taking placebo for at least 3 years.

They included only trials of using vitamin D supplements to prevent disease after a minimum 4-year follow-up and the incidence of cancer and cancer-related deaths.

In total, the badysis covered 10 trials involving 79,055 participants. Their average age was 68 years and 78% of them were women.

The team found a significant link between using vitamin D supplements and a lower risk of cancer deaths during the follow-up period.

The badysis showed that the risk of cancer deaths was 13% lower in people who took vitamin D supplements than those who took a placebo during the same period.

However, there was no significant badociation between the use of vitamin D and cancer prevention.

The findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Chicago, IL on June 3, 2019.

A recent supplement of the ASCO Journal of Clinical Oncology also includes a summary of the study.

"The difference in death rates between the vitamin D and placebo groups was statistically significant enough to show how important it could be for the cancer population," says Tarek Haykal, Resident Physician for Internal Medicine at the MSU. and one of the authors of the study lead authors.
