A three-day stakeholder conference under the auspices of MPs from the Volta region (Volta MPs Caucus) concluded in the Volta regional capital, Ho.
The bipartite forum held from October 3-5, 2021 aims to discuss a way to harness the potential of human and capital resources for rapid development in the region.
Volta MPs Caucus Chairman Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah said in a welcome speech that the conference should provide an opportunity for stakeholders, especially MPs and business leaders in the region, to take stock and reflect. to the effective development of the region.
Infrastructure and human development are two topical issues that should take center stage in the discussion during the three-day event from the perspective of government and opposition in order to find viable solutions to the challenges facing the region is facing.
Mr. Bedzrah, also MP for Ho West, insisted on the need for the exploits of the ancestors of the region to inspire the current generation of citizens to further development of the region.
Some urgent infrastructure and human challenges facing the region include the bad nature of the national road after the Adomi Bridge to the regional capital, Ho, the Eastern Corridor road network, the security threat posed by youth unemployment and non- operationalization of Ho airport. five years after its completion.
Others are the lack of equipment necessary for the efficient functioning of the University Hospital of Ho, commonly known as Trafalga, the forgotten Keta Port project, the untapped tourism potential of the region, arable land and water bodies. underutilized for agricultural purposes.
Mr. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah expressed the hope that through effective collaboration, much can be done to minimize these challenges.
“These and many other challenges facing the region can be met if we take the bull by the horns through effective and sustained collaborative efforts like the one we are leading today. I am convinced that our collective energies are capable of rewriting the score and impacting the lives of our people, ”he said.
Special guest of the conference, Fiaga from the traditional area of Anfoega and president of the Regional Chamber of Chiefs of the Volta, Togbega Tepre Hodo IV, who expressed his joy about the event, said the region will experience the essential development it needs as a result.
He urged the Voltaic deputies to get rid of all partisanship and think about the development of the region.
The Chief deplored the lack of collaboration between the Chiefs, deputies and executive heads of municipalities and metropolitan districts (MMDCE) which hinders the development of the Volta region.
He called for the urgency of improving relations between them, regardless of their affiliation with a political party.
The Fiaga of Anfoega also express their concern about the non-involvement of the chiefs in the execution of projects in their areas and called on all the competent authorities to reverse the trend.
Togbega Tepre Hodo IV stressed the need to appoint only qualified and quality people to positions at the level of local governance in order to better serve the interests of their people.
He proposed using Ho Airport as a sub-regional hub for West Africa to attract the necessary benefits to the region and the country as a whole.
For his part, the Supreme Leader (Fiaga) of the traditional Battor area, Togbega Patamia Dzekley I, who chaired the event, urged all stakeholders, regardless of their political affiliation, to act as one family in the interest of the region.
He noted that the region’s resources cannot be harnessed for the development of the region if they are divided along political lines.
Togbega ensured continued support from traditional leaders to help realize the full potential of the Volta region.
Volta Regional Minister Dr Archibald Letsa assured his team’s full support for the stakeholder conference initiative and said that the people of the region are happy whenever they see anything, no matter what. their political conviction, to fight for the development of the region.
He expressed the hope that a lot can be accomplished if they work together with a common destiny.
Dr Archibald Letsa hinted that the Volta Trade and Investment Fair will be held from November 15-28, 2021 and expressed his gratitude to all Volta MPs and the Volta Development Forum for the level of company and the support it has received over the years.
Minister of Railway Development John Peter Amewu gave a presentation on the policy direction of his ministry and the resulting benefits for the Volta region.
According to him, most cities in the region will benefit from the current railway development project.
The minister said politics is about development and insisted on the need for collaboration between political parties to promote progress in the region.
